About Stacey

Not a consultant who studied leadership. A commander who carried it.

Stacey L. O'Neal is a retired Navy Commander, author, and leadership strategist. She served thirty-one years in the United States Navy, rose from E-1 to Commander, and led organizations of up to 1,000 people in high-accountability environments. Through O'Neal Coaching she helps leaders and organizations move from pressure to purpose with practical systems for accountability, resilience, courage, and execution.

The story

Standards are not paperwork.

I left Greenville, Mississippi at eighteen on a Greyhound bus headed for boot camp. I started at the bottom of the engineering spaces, a Machinist's Mate with scratched knuckles, working on lube oil, steam, and steel. That is where I learned that standards are not paperwork. They are what stands between your people and a fire.

Over thirty-one years I moved from turning wrenches to commanding. Every rung taught the same lesson from a different angle: leadership is revealed when things are hard. It shows up in what you tolerate, what you decide when the values are in conflict, and whether your people can tell you the truth.

After thirty-one years of service, the title and position I had built my identity around were suddenly gone. What came next taught me what leadership is worth when the seat is taken away.

What came next was an All Stop: an honest assessment of who I was without the uniform, and what I still had to offer. Then a decision. I built the GET AFTER IT Leadership System out of what had actually held under pressure, wrote it down in Iron Sharpens Iron: A Journey of Resilient Leadership, and founded O'Neal Coaching to bring it to leaders who are carrying more than the org chart shows.

Resilience, accountability, reinvention, moral courage, and leadership beyond title. Those are not the themes of my story. They are the tools I walked out with, and they are what I hand to your leaders.

It's time to get up and get after it.

What the work stands on.

Demanding and hopeful at the same time: high standards, honest reflection, human dignity, and disciplined forward movement.

  1. 01

    Resilience

Reset, adapt, learn, and continue with purpose.

  2. 02

    Accountability

Own what is yours; set standards; create fair, clear consequences and reinforcement.

  3. 03

    Courage

Tell the truth, make the hard decision, and act in alignment with values.

  4. 04

    Human leadership

Mission matters and people matter. Performance and dignity are not mutually exclusive.

  5. 05

    Execution

Insight is incomplete until it becomes a disciplined next action and a measurable result.

  6. 06

    Reinvention

A title, setback, detour, or ending does not have to define the next chapter.

Decide what the next ninety days look like.

Bring Stacey to your leaders, or bring your own situation to her. Either way, the conversation ends with a next action.
